Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside

Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside Poster

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside poster

This is seaside poster was inspired by a recent holiday on the North Norfolk Coast where we spent our days in and out the sea and building sand castles. The tradition English song and saying Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside Poster was inspired after Mr Duck Egg built a huge sand castle and our little boy added a British flag to finish it off! It was a very British holiday!

Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside Poster can come with the British Flag or without and is a silhouette of the sandcastle Mr Duck Egg and our little rascal made. With all our posters and prints we hope it evokes a moment or feeling you can relate to that brings a great feeling to a room or your interiors.

The  Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside Poster is available in any colour you want (we will colour match any colour). We believe these give any wall a unique, vibrant burst of colour, style and a bespoke finish.

We have a few more Coastal Posters coming out soon so please watch this space! We will keep you updated via our news letters or blog.

Duck Egg Vintage Interiors Update

Vintage Interiors Mood Board

Modern Vintage Interiors Update

Hello everyone!

It has been some time since our last blog, we have been very busy working and collaborating with a number of you within the Duck Egg creative community, coming up with more interesting ideas, projects and creating more vintage interiors. As always your feedback is a driving force behind everything we do and the direction of the Duck Egg.

Delighted to say we have been approached to write our first book on modern vintage interiors! We are very excited and can’t wait to get a moment to start, release date is set for 2015 so thankfully we have a bit of time to get it right! Modern Vintage Interiors is looking like the name of the book but any ideas on a better name would greatly be appreciated?

A big part of the last few months has been working on our new fabrics and cushions. We are going to attempt to make our first video showcasing the new designs, if you are a Facebook follower then you have already had a sneek peek. We are delighted with them and they are situated everywhere in our house.

We are on the look out for a number of bloggers and writers who want to contribute to the Site and reach out to the Duck Egg Community. We are very keen to find a gardening expert and a bakery expert to share some of their hints and tips for the garden and the kitchen. If interested then please email us at info@duckeggdesigns.com and have your article be read by more than 50,000 people a month! (no pressure!) ;) .

One of the big requests we received via email and via twitter was for more vintage posters and a post card range. The post cards are in the pipeline but at the moment the focus has been on continuing the poster range designed by Ellie and Nick Harrington. The range continues on the theme of a fresh, modern, fun poster that looks good in any room and we are delighted to say we are still offering the colour match service so you can perfectly match your room colours to ensure the posters blend in perfectly with your interior.

Since returning from a wonderful summer holiday on the Norfolk Broads we have had lots of inspiration for a new range of coastal posters and water based themes that provoke a lot of happy memories for us and we hope have similar connections with you.

We made a little video of our Norfolk adventure for you:

As always a huge thanks the you, the blog, twitter and Facebook supporters we hugely appreciate all the support and messages and everyday we get a little closer to launching a Duck Egg Designs shop with all our products plus tea and cake of course.

Watch this space for a series of new product launches coming soon.

Hope everyone is well, crafting, designing and inspiring themselves and others.

All the best with your modern vintage interiors!

Our Engraved Toy Box from from Waxed Oak is the latest in our personalised toy boxes range.

Engraved Toy Box

The extension of our Personalised Toy Boxes Range has lead us to start building our nex range of engraved toy boxes in a gorgeous waxed oak. An extremely strong, sturdy and beautifully decorative wood that has a stamp of quality attached to it. Engraved Toy Box Oat is available in natural wood, baby pink, duck egg blue and white. Other colours are available on request please contact info@duckeggdesigns.com. We usually have most colours in our workshop, so please do say if you want a different colour.

Creating our Personalised Toy Boxes brings us so much joy and are one of our biggest sellers. We are obsessed with developing the safest toy box on the market with slow release closing mechanisms to ensure little fingers don’t get caught especially as we have a little rascal of our own. Tidying away couldn’t be easier as the mechanism helps little people open the lids of the toy boxes without it crashing shut. This is was an absolutely essential factor for us to focus on and has also received great feedback from our customers.

As with our personalised toy boxes the process for purchasing is the same. In the purchasing pages please write the name and style you wish to have appear on the box and colour.Standard Toy Boxes are 80 cm wide x 50 cm depth x 46 cm height.

Think outside the box Poster

Think Outside The Box Poster

Think outside the box Poster was born out of the creation of most of the Duck Egg Designs work, trying to bring a modern approach to a vintage interior. Think outside the box Poster was created and hung on our wall during the early days of Duck Egg and now we thought we’d introduce it to you and see if it brings you or your friends, colleague’s the same levels of inspiration it gave us. We only remembered the poster when a friend of Nick’s (Mr Duck Egg) was having problems with a new business and we gave him this poster as a present to produce his creative juices.

Think Outside the Box

We hope you like the Think outside the box Poster and it goes well in your study, office or space that brings out your creative thinking side.

The Think Outside The Box Poster and all are posters and prints are available in any colour you want (we will colour match any colour). We believe these give any wall a unique, vibrant burst of colour, style and a bespoke finish. Seaside Fabric Pinboard

Seaside Fabric Pinboard

Fabric Seaside Pinboard

Seaside Fabric Pinboard, Celebrate summer by bringing the seaside indoors with this pretty old picture frame transformed into a handy seaside fabric pinboard. It’s perfect for displaying postcards, jewellery, or just important reminders! Ellie Harrington shares some of her Upcycling tips and the techniques to make the Seaside Fabric Pinboard.

FRAMED SEASIDE FABRIC PINBOARD HOW TO...

MATERIALS

    • An old picture frame

    • Paint (sample pots would work well for this project)

    • Adhesive cork roll

    • Material for covering the board

    • (you will need the size of the back of the frame and an extra 15mm of fabric for the border)

    • Grosgrain ribbon

  • Upholstery tacks/buttons for decoration (optional)

EQUIPMENT

    • Paintbrush

    • Sandpaper

    • Staple gun

    • Masking tape

    • Hammer (optional)

  • Spray adhesive (optional)

STEP ONE for creating your seaside fabric pinboard. Choose an interesting frame with detail that will enhance your paint effect. The size of your frame depends on how big you want your fabric pinboard to be and on the repeat of your fabric pattern. Remove and carefully discard the glass, if there is any. If the frame is gilded or has a shiny finish, chalk paints are a great alternative to sanding and can be painted straight on without priming. However, if you want to use emulsion or eggshell, key your surface by lightly sanding it, to help the paint to hold. To create a seaside appearance I painted an undercoat of white and a top layer of a seaside grey. We think this helps create beautiful vintage interiors!

STEP TWO Sand the paint back in places to give a distressed feel. In some places remove the top layer to just the white undercoat and in other places right back to the wood to create the appearance of driftwood.

Corkboard Frame for a Pinboard

STEP THREE Remove the back from your frame and cut your cork roll to size. The

roll is adhered either by removing the sticky backing paper or by applying a spray

adhesive, if you have plain cork roll. This will give pins or tacks something to fix to. If you have a deep frame you could add a layer of foam in between, or another layer of cork. Just make sure you leave room for the fabric to fit inside the frame.

Shabby Chic Painted Frame

Crab Fabric covers Pinboard

STEP FOUR Iron your fabric and cut to size. You will need 15mm for the margins. Fold

it over and stretch it as you staple the crab fabric print down (we have obviously used our Norfolk Crab Fabric Print here!) so there are no rucks or creases. You

can use double-sided sticky tape instead of staples. Tuck in the corners for a neat finish.

STEP FIVE To complete the pin board you can use luxurious grosgrain ribbon in

diamonds across the board. Use masking tape to hold the ribbon until you are satis?ed

and then staple gun in place, pulling it tight as you secure the ribbon. Trim to the

length of the trim of the fabric. The ribbon diamonds will hold pictures and mementos

or, if you would rather, you can use pins to attach these. You could also hold the ribbon

in place with ornamental upholstery tacks or use mother of pearl buttons for a beach feel.

There you have it! A beautiful coast-inspired pin board that will perfectly frame your

favourite seaside treasures!
